Ark Centre Memory Cafe - 5.12.18

We started with 8 participants in the session of whom three individuals shared their stories and interacted more.  We had the pop star pictures and the memory tree as activities. One of the participants had dementia; with the pictures she was able to identify pop singers but wasn't able to remember the songs. Her daughter supported her to sing the songs, and this brought a smile to her face when she recognised them. Another participant shared a story of when her husband had just caught the ship to England when he went out to get flour for his mother. After a month he sent her a letter to join him in England.  There was another gentleman who was in the army where he was a boxer. He also worked as a draftsman and was so talented in his work that he could draw with correct measurements just by looking. He was very funny and a fan of Mohammed Ali, remembering his motto: "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee". There was a lot of laughter and interesting stories expressed by the participants and it was obvious that had more to tell.
