Reminiscence Session 1 - 21st May, 2018

Updated: Aug 23, 2018

This reminiscence session was the first opportunity for the volunteers to put what they had learnt about oral history and reminiscence into practice. We had a really good turn out of twenty-one participants, made up of seventeen service users, three members of staff, and a student on placement from UEL. The group was split into two, so each was a nice size, and there was more scope for the project volunteers to run more activities. I sat in on one of the groups, and heard some excellent memories about the smell of water on dry earth in Indian schoolyards, social attitudes to smoking, the differences between red and green chili powder and growing chilies in rural India, and how Green Street has changed over the last sixty years.

The volunteers led the activities really well, reflected in how much the participants got out of the session.
